DUSTIN POIRIER claims that their bitter rivalry against Conor McGregor will continue 'forever', no matter how many times they fight.
In January, the feud between former featherweight competitors was renewed at UFC 257. Poirier stunned the world with a second round KO win.
Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier's rivalry started seven years ago, when they were both 145ers
In July, Poirier won a second consecutive victory over The Notorious. This was due to a broken leg that The Notorious broke. He roared: "This fight is not over."
The Diamond cannot imagine a time when their beef would ever be quashed.
He stated to BT Sport that he believes it can be fought five more times and that it is not settled.
"It's just one rivalry that's going to be forever."
Poirier (32), will be back in action tomorrow morning at UFC 269's main event. He'll attempt to end Charles Oliveira’s short reign as lightweight champion.
This will be Lafayette's third bout in 2021. He hopes it will be his last frantic year.
He stated, "I see a lot fighters trying to get every drop out of their career and leaving a lot out there.
"I don’t want to do this. I have been fighting for a while. He said that he had his first fight at the age of 18."
"I don’t believe I’m going anywhere. I believe I may fight less often. It's my passion, it's who i am.
"Win, lose, or draw Saturday night, I'm gonna not be fighting three times per year, moving forward."
Poirier will be seeking to claim the lightweight title at the second attempt and is determined to permanently write his name in the UFC's historical books.
He stated, "If Saturday night I am the world champion, then I have done all I set out to do."
"I have set up my family. We are in a very good financial position.
"I own other businesses. That box must be checked. That's forever. To make life fair, I said 25 minutes.
"This is 25 minutes to eternity, 25 to eternity. This is what it is. That can't be taken away.
"Once you are a champion, you will always be a champion." It is very important to me and my wife. It just consolidates everything we have done."
