DUSTIN POIRIER was told that a fourth fight against Conor McGregor would be "too much" for him.
After his heartbreaking loss to Charles Oliveira, 155lb champion, a fourth matchup with his feathered and lightweight opponent has been planned for The Diamond.
Last year, Dustin Poirier fought Conor McGregor back-to-back
Paul Felder, a former lightweight champion, believes that McGregor's emotional baggage would prove too much for Poirier at the moment.
The Schmo was told by the retired Irish Dragon: "He needs to have fun fighting."
"He needs to be able to face the opposition and not worry about titles or feel pressure.
"Even Conor McGregor fighting I believe is too much for him right at the moment.
"Just face another top dog, someone who has been around for awhile, and try to get W. If you don't get a W go get paid and make people see it.
"I believe he needs to have a lighthearted fight. Not that any of them is easy, but one without title implications."
Felder would love to see Nate Diaz, the former interim lightweight champion, take on Felder.
He stated: "It should happen (Poirier Vs. Diaz).
"That should have been written immediately after Dustin lost the fight to Charles Oliveira."
Poirier earlier this week revealed that a short-notice grudge match between Diaz and welterweight Poirier was very close to becoming a reality.
During an appearance on The Fight with Teddy Atlas he stated: "It's Nate Diaz.
"I don't intend to give a card. "I'm not going say when."
He started tweeting about it. He is a fighter and I love him. But, everyone's tough on the internet.
He said something along the lines of, "Let's make it happen." I replied, "Yeah, sure." "I'll fight you every day this month.
However, Ultimate Fighter Season Five winner Diaz quickly discredited the claim and took aim at Pride of Louisiana via Twitter.
He tweeted: "I just spoke to the UFC and I said wassup about the DP fight.
"I want to fight asap, but they said Dustin is sucks and they don’t want it.
"Sorry, Dustin you suck. Let's get this done. Ps Olivera, you're a suck too."
Poirier, 32 was defeated by Charles Oliveira, a lightweight champion, in the third round of his UFC 269.
At UFC 263, Diaz was the one who lost in a unanimous decision to Brit Leon Edwards.
