Dustin Poirier believes Conor McGregor to be the most difficult puncher he has ever faced

Seven years ago, the former interim lightweight champion was defeated by the Irishman in a brutal KO match at UFC 178 in Las Vegas.

McGregor's defeat ended Poirier’s hopes of fighting to win the featherweight title. It also forced the American to reassess the sport.

McGregor had lost in the second round of their rematch earlier this year.

The pair met again in July, and Poirier won the third time.

Poirier acknowledged that Mac was always a danger foe despite his win against him at 33 years old.

He stated that Conor McGregor [packs heaviest punch], there is no doubt about it.

"As the greatest puncher I have ever fought?" Yes, he is a special person.

"Fought him in 2014 and lost. That was his trajectory, you know, when the sky was the limit.

"He was on his climb and he tore through everyone, becoming a two-weight champion."

McGregor injured his leg in the second round of their latest fight. The doctor then stopped the fight.

However, Poirier revealed earlier in the month that he had considered quitting MMA following his loss to McGregor in 2014.

He said that he fought Conor McGregor the first time he appeared at The Vault 2021.

"I was very close to winning the title shot.

"I was in the Top 2 world rankings and I went out there to beat a guy who runs his mouth and says all these things.

"When I returned home, I felt like I was looking in the mirror and asking myself, "What am I doing?

"What's the matter? I put everything into this, and I lost."
