DUSTIN POIRIER claims Conor McGregor's prefight jibes about his wife Jolie weren't a cause of 'tension' prior to their trio fight.
McGregor, a former two-division champion, brought Jolie to the trash talk before the pair's UFC 264 rubber fight.
Conor McGregor stepped up the intensity in the build-up for his trilogy fight with Dustin Pourier
Poirier and his childhood sweetheart weren't both offended by the Irishman’s personal taunts.
He stated that there was no tension in the house.
"Just as I said before when my child was born into this, I drove my wife to my first fight [when] she didn't own a car.
"She drove me across state borders to Arkansas, and I fought in an arena for rodeo back in 2007, maybe." She is an expert on the game.
"Probably better than some of the people on the card."
The build-up for Poirier's UFC 269 lightweight title fight against champion Charles Oliveira on Saturday couldn't be more different from the one leading up to McGregor's series decider.
Both men were extremely respectful before their showdown that will be the finale of the year's pay-per-view events.
Poirier insists that he would not be affected if McGregor went down the McGregor build up route.
The Diamond stated that the build-up to his second attempt at the undisputed UFC Gold was "smooth sailing", with little back and forth.
He seems to be respectful. It's still a fight at the end of it all.
When we get there, this is warfare. However, as I mature, I realize that this is not something I really think about.
"Even during the Conor fights in the build up, I didn’t get too involved in it.
"I don’t care about this stuff anymore. What matters is what I know.
"Even though it was a wild back-and-forth verbal exchange on Saturday night when the belt rang, it's going to be the same result."
While Poirier is confident Oliveira's short reign as champ will be over, he refuses to overlook the Brazilian in-form who has won nine consecutively.
He stated that he was as dangerous as any other top fighters he'd fought, but in different areas.
"His submission game numbers don't lie. He is one of the most dangerous submission artists to ever hit the UFC canvas.
"And we didn’t leave that aside during training camp.
"We focused on my fight IQ on ground and the fence, and where I am in the round. I also took the risks that I needed to take.
"So he is very dangerous."
