DUSTIN POIRIER revealed that he admires Khamzat Chimaev but wants to see him in the octagon.
With four dominant performances in the cage, the Chechen clubber has shot up the UFC ranks. He's been only hit ONCE.
Khamzat Chimaev made a big splash in his four fights at the UFC
Poirier, a fellow fan favorite, was impressed by Chimaev’s early tear in promotion and is keen to find out if the 10-0 Welterweight prospect is real.
He stated that he would buy a broadcast of the numbered cards where Chimaev is fighting.
"His fights have an exciting quality and are arousing interest. I would like to find out if he really is the man everyone believes he to be."
"I believe that stars are what keep people engaged in sports.
"I don’t want to say it without him, but it’s great that we have such an individual - everyone wants the truth about his specialness and we will find that out."
Poirier could fight Chimaev again, regardless of how Charles Oliveira's UFC 269 lightweight title fight ends.
The former interim titleholder, who was 155 lbs at the time, is now aiming to move up to welterweight.
He's not sure when he will leave the stacked division of 155lbs, which he could very easily rule on Saturday night.
He stated, "We'll be watching." He said, "I don't know when I'm going to make that leap."
"Especially if Saturday is the world champion. "I have to defend my belt, and I must be here for a while to establish myself as world champion."
Poirier has one eye on 170lbs but isn't letting go of Oliveira.
Do Bronx, 32 years old, said that he was as dangerous as any other top fighters he'd fought. However, he's in different areas.
"His submission game numbers don't lie. He is one of the most dangerous submission artists to ever enter the UFC.
"And we didn’t leave that aside during training camp.
"We focused on my fight IQ on ground and the fence, and where I am in the round. I also took the risks that I needed to take.
"So he is very dangerous."
