IAN GARRY fulfilled his promise to knockout Jordan Williams in his eagerly awaited UFC debut - which was praised and hailed by Conor McGregor, his countryman.

Former Cage Warriors welterweight champion, the Contenders Series alum made his octagon bow on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden's UFC 268 preliminary.

Garry from Ireland, 8-0, promised to stop the fight in the second round of his maiden UFC appearance.

With just seconds left in the stanza, a stunning counter right hand saw the 23-year old - who had to overcome some early adversity- fulfill his pre-fight prediction.

Joe Rogan was interviewed by Garry after the fight and he said that he was undefeated.

"We are taking over the division. One wise man once said that we are not here to participate, but to take over.

"And this, the takeover, part 2."

McGregor has been long compared to Dublin's Garry. the biggest mixed martial artist of all time.

The Notorious was quick praise his countryman for the spectacular debut.

He tweeted: "You little f****n' daisy Ian!

"The step back, the back paw an all hahahahaja absolutely amazing!

"Congrats @iangarryMMA."

Garry, who is undefeated, doesn't mind being compared with McGregor, the former two-division champion, saying to SunSport, "I completely understand where people are coming in the sense of, "Oh, Conor McGregor."

"But that's because I'm from Dublin in Ireland. That's it.

"You don’t say that about every American who walks in. You know what I'm referring to? Who fights? It's called, "Oh, he wants to be the next big thing."

"There has been only one Conor, and he's the UFC's most popular fighter, brought attention to [the sport], and made money."

Conor has had the greatest impact on the UFC, it's no secret. Conor has brought the most people to the UFC, and he has done the most shows.

"I believe Conor is responsible for four of the top five pay-per-views. He is insane. He did unbelievable things.

Everyone is saying, "Oh, they want to find the next Conor." They want to find the next Conor. It's fine with me.

"But don’t get me wrong, my plan is set and I have my goals. I know what's ahead.

"But, if people want me to be compared to someone who has had a greatest effect on the sport and made the most positive change in terms of bringing attention to it, they can do so.

"And they don't mind me being the poster boy, and they're looking to someone to wear a mantle like that."
