Fulfilling His Promise
Now, with the guidance of superstar McGregor, the 19-year-old Irishman is on his way to fulfilling his vow. Kelly has signed with the Professional Fighters League (PFL) and is set to make his promotional debut in Dublin this Friday.
Self-Belief and Manifestation
Kelly's self-belief and dedication to his craft have played a crucial role in his journey. He stated, "You need that self-belief to know you are the best, you can be the best, and you can go far with it." Kelly feels that he has manifested this moment and is confident in his abilities.
Early Start in Martial Arts
Kelly's passion for martial arts started at the age of four as a way to blow off steam and improve his behavior. Over the years, he has achieved junior national, European, and world titles in kickboxing, jiu-jitsu, and MMA.
The Impact of Conor McGregor
Joining Dublin's famed Straight Blast Gym at the age of seven, Kelly witnessed Conor McGregor's rise firsthand. Reflecting on McGregor's influence, he said, "MMA went huge, and of course Conor went huge, and so did the whole sport." McGregor's impact on the Irish MMA scene and the sport as a whole cannot be overstated.
A Role Model and Mentor
McGregor continues to be a role model and inspiration to Kelly's career. Kelly praised McGregor's dedication to the sport, stating, "He's always there to help people, and especially myself since I was a kid I've been bothering him to spar and to train, and he's never said no to me."
Looking Ahead
Although still an amateur in MMA, Kelly is set to face Northern Ireland's Callum Seaton in a showcase bout on the PFL Europe final card. He plans to remain amateur next year and assess his options in 2025. But for now, Kelly is focused on putting on a show and showcasing his skills against Seaton at the 3Arena.
With his determination and the support of McGregor and the MMA community, Nate Kelly is well on his way to turning his childhood dream into a reality.
