Joe Rogan Left Stunned
Popular podcaster and UFC commentator, Joe Rogan, expressed his astonishment after Sean Strickland's unexpected victory over Israel Adesanya at UFC 293. The unfancied 185lbs star shocked the world by out-pointing Adesanya to claim the middleweight gold in Sydney. As Strickland dropped Adesanya towards the end of the first round, Rogan reacted by repeatedly exclaiming "Oh my god" and later added, "Holy s***, Izzy just got cracked."
Rogan's Live Watch-Along
Rather than making the trip to Australia, Rogan decided to live-stream the fight with his friends. As Adesanya suffered the knockdown, Rogan's shock and surprise became evident. Rogan's live reactions and commentary added an extra layer of excitement to the fight for his followers.
Rogan Reflects on the Upset
After the incredible upset, Rogan shared his thoughts on the unexpected outcome, highlighting it as the most stunned he's ever been. Comparing it to the Holly Holm-Ronda Rousey fight, Rogan admitted that he never saw this victory coming. He couldn't believe how Strickland cracked Adesanya with a right hand in the first round, questioning what world and timeline they were in.
Adesanya's Performance and Future
Israel Adesanya, who is known as one of the UFC's most marketable stars, faced a surprise defeat. He survived the first round scare but ultimately lost with the judges scoring the fight 49-46 in favor of Strickland. Adesanya's performance left UFC president Dana White stunned as well, and he expressed his curiosity about what Adesanya would say during the press conference.
Next Opponents on the Horizon
As for Sean Strickland, his victory raised questions about who his next opponent might be. Dricus Du Plessis, who defeated Robert Whittaker earlier this summer, could potentially be next in line for a shot at Strickland. Additionally, Khamzat Chimaev continues to wait in the wings for his opportunity to challenge for the middleweight title.
Overall, Strickland's victory shocked both Rogan and the UFC community, making it one of the most memorable moments in recent UFC history.
