Jorge Masvidal has shocked fans by announcing his retirement U-turn, just in time for a potential grudge fight against rival Leon Edwards on the upcoming UFC 300 card. Masvidal had previously called time on his career in April after a series of losses but left the door open for a comeback.
Fans Speculate about UFC 300 Fight
Just eight months after his retirement, Masvidal took to social media to announce that he is "unretired." This announcement came shortly after Edwards revealed that he would be fighting on the historic UFC 300 card. Fans couldn't help but speculate about a potential showdown between Edwards and Masvidal at UFC 300.
One fan commented, "Imagine if UFC does Leon Edwards vs Jorge Masvidal for #UFC300." Another said, "Edwards vs Masvidal sounds good to me."
A History of Bad Blood
The rivalry between Masvidal and Edwards dates back to 2019 when Masvidal punched Edwards backstage at UFC London. The two were scheduled to fight in December 2021 at UFC 296, but Masvidal had to withdraw due to injury. In April 2022, Masvidal faced his arch-enemy Colby Covington and was defeated on points. Following a loss to Gilbert Burns, Masvidal retired.

Meanwhile, Edwards, who is the current UFC welterweight champion, secured the title with a head kick knockout against Kamaru Usman and successfully defended it in a rematch. He recently revealed that he is set to fight at UFC 300 on April 13 in Las Vegas. Contenders Belal Muhammad and Gilbert Burns are the frontrunners to face Edwards for the championship.
