After UFC star Jorge Masvidal's withdrawal, LEON EDWARDS will need to wait to meet Jorge Masvidal.
The UFC 269 card in Las Vegas was scheduled to feature the welterweight title contestants.
Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards were scheduled to clash at UFC 269 next week
because of an unspecified injury.
Masvidal, a fan favorite, has had to withdraw from the showdown after suffering an unspecified injury. This has been more than two years in the making.
Edwards, dejected, tweeted: "Disappointed, but honestly. I knew that this fraud didn’t want to challenge me anyway.
"He was just an intermediate stop on the road to the title. The goal is the same. Family time is so important now.
Edwards, 30 years old, now wants to rematch Kamaru Usman, welterweight champion.
The Brit, a Jamaican-born Brit, added: "@usman84kg We will see each other soon."
Rocky is currently undefeated in nine of his last fights.
Khamzat Chimaev, a Russian wrecking machine, has joined the fray along with Gilbert Burns, formerly the title challenger.
The unbeaten Chimaev tweeted, "Let's go bro, we do it @Leon_edwardsmma" after Masvidal's injury news broke.
Edwards and Chimaev were set to fight in December and January respectively, but their showdown was canceled twice due to Covid.
Masvidal, a two-time title challenger at 170lb, has not yet commented on his decision to withdraw from his clash against the Birmingham bruiser.
Their rivalry is rooted in their fight at UFC Fight Night 147, London in March 2019.
Masvidal, a Miami mauler, cut short his post-fight interview on ESPN to confront Edwards and punch him before being dragged off by security.
Edwards, a soft-spoken fighter, was determined to exact revenge on the MMA legend. He told The MMA Hour that he would do anything to get rid of the man.
"Leon's going all in to do what he has always done -- put on his track shoes and turn it into an event and run, run for your life.
"So I don’t care how grudge-match it is or what he has to say, the man’s a coward.
"He's going throw punches, run, and get on his bicycle and run, and run, and run.
"I'll cut off the ring eventually and I will land the blows I need on him, slow him to a crawl, and then I'm going take him out.
"But don’t expect too much from him in the fight. I can assure you that he will hit-and-run.
