Covington is widely regarded as one of the most important characters in the UFC

Masvidal made it clear that he will take action against the controversial Covington.

He spoke to MMA Junkie and said that he hoped the referee would slip on a banana peel as he was pulling me off. The extra shots will help him to change his life and improve his face structure.

Masvidal claims that Covington failed pay Paulino Hernandez, a striking coach - Gamebred's partner in crime - and this is the root of their rivalry.

Masvidal stated that Covington was his most disliked opponent, saying earlier in the month: It's not personal. It's business.

"Since the beginning, I knew who I would be getting involved with and what options were available.

"It's someone I don't like at any time whatsoever."

Masvidal, who has lost his last two fights to Kamaru Usman, will now face Covington in Las Vegas.

Covington was also defeated twice by The Nigerian Nightmare, although with a win over Tyron Woodley in the middle.

Covington is the current holder of the 170lb title.

Masvidal hopes to win over his compatriot and be best-placed to take another shot at the belt.

Masvidal said, "It's got to do something," when he was asked where a win against Covington would take him.

"Because these rankings, as much as bulls**t they may be, he [Covington] still has the No1 [contender] spot."

"So there's no denying that I exist."
