It promises to end the years of feuding, with bragging rights for reputations and bragging rights.

Last year, Covington posed with Maritza Masvidal, claiming that he was his ex-wife. He called Masvidal a 'piece s*** father' during an interview with The Mac Life.

With the UFC 272 headliner set for March 5, Las Vegas, Masvidal has vowed that he will make Covington pay for what he said.

On The MMA Hour, he said: "I'm going f***ing to break your face man."

"Everything you said, we're going to have to see what's up once we get into the cage, you know.

"This is an individual I don't think anyone likes.

"Somebody is talking about ex-teammates’ wives and stuff like that? Are you going to fight the chick or the dude?

Masvidal, 37 years old, saw a meteoric rise with victories over Darren Till (29), Ben Askren (37), and Nate Diaz (36).

He was then able to challenge Kamaru Usman (34), for the welterweight title in July 2020, but only after filling out on late notice.

Masvidal was defeated on points, but was brutally eliminated in their April 2021 rematch. Masvidal had not won in more than two years.

Covington, 33 years old, has been defeated twice by the welterweight champion. However, both losses were narrow.

Masvidal also got into a prefight feud with Usman but said it was nothing compared with his past with Covington who he used to live with.

He said: "They're all business, but if it were to be something personal this would be one of the closer ones.

"This is because the individual lived on my couch for over a year. He had a broken hand but he was still living on my couch and eating my meal prep.

"I was already sponsored while he was an amateur entering the world.

It just helps to put things in perspective. If you are alone, you most likely will be alone. This man is a legitimate state."
