UFC legend Aldo, who was knocked out in 13 seconds by McGregor in their featherweight title fight in December 2015, has supported the Dubliner to get back to his best.

Ag Fight was told by the 34-year-old Brazilian: "First, I'm upset about the injury.

"It is quite difficult, we work with the body, we try and keep it healthy so that we can always be working."

"I believe he can [get to fighting at a higher level]. I have never doubted the champions' mind and willpower.

He has been a champion in both lightweight and featherweight weights. He can do it. He can return to a high-level level if he so desires.

Aldo then praised McGregor's performance against Poirier in the first round, before the referee canceled the contest due to McGregor's injury.

Poirier has recently stated that he is open for a fourth fight with McGregor, as he prepares for his bout against Charles Oliveira in December.

According to him, he believes he has proven himself the superior fighter twice here. But we'll wait and see what happens (about a fourth fight).

"I don’t know when he’s coming back. He has a long recovery and a long road ahead.

"I'm the next in line to a title shot, but it's difficult to predict what's going in the future. I don't know."
