Kamaru Usman, UFC Welterweight Champion, is looking to make a return to the Octagon in the summer. However, he is refusing to leave the cage until his hand has healed completely.
Last month, Africa's first UFC champion had surgery to repair the ligament damage in his right hand that he sustained three weeks prior to his match with Colby Covington last October.
Kamaru Usman, UFC Welterweight Champion, is looking forward to a summer return in the Octagon
Usman, 34 years old, is tentatively aiming to headline International Fight Week on July 2. However, he will only do this if his doctors give him the green light.
SunSport was informed this week by the Love Hemp Ambassador: "That's all I want."
"But, of course, I must take the necessary steps to ensure that I am properly prepared [for the fight].
"And my hand, these are the money-makers. Before I can jump back in, I need to make sure it is completely healed."

The Pound-for–Pound king Usman does not intend to fight while he is at this stage in his career.
He said, "I have a lot at stake, and a lot to gain." My health is at stake, not just my belt and my money.
"And the functionality and function of my hand forever.
"So, I must make sure I wait the right time, listen to the doctors and then get back to work when it is time."

They are very familiar with each other, having shared the octagon almost seven years ago at UFC on Fox 17
Edwards, 30 years old, has not tasted defeat since that fateful Florida night. He won nine of his ten last octagon appearances.
Usman believes Rocky has made great strides since their first encounter, but he insists that his own skillset has grown over the same period.
He stated that Leon is sharper in his striking. He is a master of striking. Let's be real.
"We saw it during the fight with Nate Diaz. He tortured him for nearly four-and-a half rounds.
"Then Nate Diaz did the best thing Nate Diaz does, he went in there and landed that shot and stole all the glory.
"You didn't know Leon Edwards won that fight? Leon is a much better fighter, I believe.
"His grappling has improved greatly, his wrestling is much better, but I am also much more improved."
