Khabib backs Amir Khan in Kellbrook grudge match, but predicts a "close fight" as UFC legend reveals his love for boxing

KHABIB NURMAGOMEDOV will back Amir Khan in his grudge fight with Kell Brook, but expects a close fight.

These 35-year-old welterweights are finally putting their reputations and bragging right on the line in Manchester this Saturday.

Khan and Khabib, both popular Middle East fighters, have been friends in the past.

The former UFC legend will support his friend in the pay-per view clash but it won't be easy.

Khabib, 33 years old, said to Sky Sports that he would watch. I love boxing and I enjoy boxing. I watched boxing like I do all the big fights live.

"I know Khan [Khan] is a tough opponent. And I was like, "I don't think Amir Khan is in his prime right now."

But it's going be a close battle. I believe it will be a close fight.

"He has a tough opponent but he can beat it, but I think it will be very close fight."

Khabib, 33, retired from the UFC after defeating Justin Gaethje in his first fight since losing to Abdulmanap, his father.

The Russian refused his mentor and coach's return, even refusing to fight Floyd Mayweather, 44, in a boxing match worth $100 million.

Khabib is still a big fight fan. He even started his own MMA promotion called Eagle Fighting Championship.

Nurmagomedov, in addition to boxing, is also a passionate football fan and has recently visited Manchester United.

One of his top priorities now is to convince Cristiano Ronaldo (37), to stay at Old Trafford for the next season.

Khabib laughed and said, "He turned 37 years old. This is not his best year, but he still plays well, which I believe affects his entire team."

His energy, his knowledge, and his advice are all very inspiring. They have a young, strong and talented team.

"Next year, I believe they will do very well. Right now so many new players don't connect well.

"I believe next year Manchester United will be a big problem for all clubs. I will talk to him."
