Khamzat Chimaev "probably going to leapfrog" Leon Edwards in UFC welterweight title shot. With 'another quick victory'

UFC sensation Khamzat Chimiev is ready to 'leapfrog’ Leon Edwards in the fight for the welterweight title.

Unbeaten, the Russian declared himself an elite 170-pounder at UFC 267. He won a thrilling first round submission victory over Li Jingliang and climbed to tenth place in the rankings.

The Russian could leapfrog Brit Leon Edwards by winning the race for a title shot

Chimaev's victory over The Leech has set him on the fast track to a title shot. Former middleweight champion Michael Bisping believes that he will be able to beat Edwards with another quick win in his next bout.

SunSport spoke with Britian's UFC champion: "Leon is due for a title shot."

"But the problem with Khamzat, as I mentioned, is that he's not a good candidate for the job. Khamzat could easily win another quick victory, simply because everybody is talking about him.

"I made a YouTube video about him and everyone loved it.

"They are more interested in Khamzat then they are Glover Teixeira which is crazy."

Brit Edwards, a Jamaican-born fighter, was one win away from a long-overdue title shot before the UFC cancelled his grudge match against Jorge Masvidal.

Edwards chose to sit out of the rematch with Kamaru Usman, welterweight champion. SunSport however understands that his fight with Masvidal could be rescheduled.

However, Bisping believes that the UFC brass may overlook Rocky, regardless of whether the fight comes to fruition.

The Count stated: "That's kinda a pain in my a**e Leon Edwards because, if he beats Masvidal (and I pick him to defeat Masvidal), he should win the title fight.

"But there are reasons to be concerned because of Khamzat."

Russian wrecker machine Chimaev made the whole welterweight division aware with his emphatic choke out of Jingliang. He had never before been finished.

Bisping, 42 years old, was initially skeptical about Borz's title credentials, but is now fully onboard the hype train after his Fight Island masterclass.

Michael Bisping, a former UFC middleweight champion, believes Chimaev can 'leapfrog Edwards

He stated, "It's crazy, it's crazy." He is totally out of his mind.

He then moves forward and picks him up in his arms. Dana [White] is having a conversation with him. Then he slams him to the ground and finishes him off. It's wild!

"I was a little on the fence. "I was like, "Okay, he beat Rhys McKee, John Phillips."

"And no disrespect for them, but tailored match-ups in style.

"Then, [after] the] Gerald Meerschaert fight, I thought, "Ah Gerald, he kinda froze and got caught. It could have been a lucky punch.

"To do this to Jingliang The Leech who is a tough man - he's not a walk in the park.

Chimaev's destruction Jingliang blew Bisping away

"To be able to do it, to make it seem so easy, and to do it with such bravado and arrogance.

"To be so arrogant, and still be able carry it out like that is insane."

"I hate to admit it, but this early Conor McGregor stuff isn't is it?" It is. He is an amazing star."
