He was also the victim of a vicious elbow in the first round, which split his head open.

The shock at the lightweight's slasher-film worthy cut was witnessed by the entire arena.

Surprisingly, however, Mousah was allowed to continue by the cageside official - who applied a large dollop vaseline to the cut.

However, the wound was immediately reopened following the restart. Blood poured from Mousah's mouth as the pair went to battle.

Mousah fought valiantly and had many great moments during the fight, which is to his credit.

However, the judges prefer Gallon's work and awarded him a unanimous victory with 29-28, 30-27 and 30-27 scorecards.

After the fight, Bellator's medical team quickly attended to Mousah and gave him 15 stitches.

MMA fans quickly praised him with one tweet: "Kane Mousah! Incredible heart!"

Another stated that Kane was a Badr Sports man, and that was just a paper cut in his books.

Another said, "Mad levels de toughness from Kane Mousah fighting against that horrendous cut."

The 35-year old took to Instagram to share his battle scare and his thoughts about the closely fought fight.

He stated that although it didn't go our direction, he believed he won the fight.

"A fight is just that, a fight. This is the beauty of MMA. It's an incredible sport that can be won in any way.

"That was the fight that night.

"You saw me in there gritty; southpaw, head kick; hurt him. Split me. Blood in my eyes. But I never gave up. Heart of a Lion

Mousah also reflected on Saturday's fight via Instagram, writing: "A man’s true character cannot be judged in times of comfort.

"Only in his times of adversity is he truly understood."

"I will not break, I won't fold, and I will never give up.

"I will fight through the darkness because there is always light at end of tunnel.

"Thank you to all of you for your love. Thank you to each and every one of them.

"We go again, but next time we go more. SCARFACE
