They were set to meet in 2020, when McGregor objected to Dana White, UFC president, claiming Masvidal was too big for him.
The duo parted ways, but Chael Sonnen, ex-UFC champion and analyst, called for talks to resume.
Sonnen, 44, stated that people are forgetting Dana's words when he said he would never fight.

"I believe now is the right time, International Fight Week seems like the date. Let's get McGregor - Masvidal done once for all."
McGregor, 33 years old, has lost his two last fights against Dustin Poirier (whom he beat first in 2014).
Poirier, 33 years old, won their rematch in 2021 by knockout. Seven months later, he suffered a broken tibia in the trio bout.
Masvidal, 37 years old, was beaten twice by Kamaru Usman (welterweight champion), 34 on points and then by the KO.
Colby Covington (34), was his former bitter rival and friend. He lost on points.
Masvidal's meteoric rise to 2019 culminated in beating Nate Diaz (36), for the 'Badest Mother F***er’ belt that the UFC made just for this fight.
He was soon linked to McGregor, who had just returned at welterweight having beaten Donald Cerrone, 38.
Sonnen believes that if Masvidal puts on his BMF strap for the first fight, the UFC could have a record-breaking fight.
On Teddy Atlas' podcast, he said: "I believe the single largest fight, if your goal is to get the attention of the world and have some fun."
