The American 37-year-old lost against his Brazilian opponent 31 to the middleweight bout. He hadn't fought for THREE YEARS.
Rockhold, however, made sure that he left his mark while Costa was grappling in the Octagon.
As Rockhold scrambled to the top of Costa, blood was pouring out from both UFC fighters.
Rockhold gripped his opponent and began to rub his bloodied cheeks over Costa's.
Commentators loved the stunt, with one calling them "hilarious, twisty... so Luke Rockhold".
However, punters who were watching from home were less amused.
One said, "Luke Rockhold smearing his blood on Costa is one of most monstrous and disgusting things I have ever seen."
Another boomed, "I can't believe Rockhold wiped all his blood over Costa."
One observer noted that Rockhold was rubbing his blood into Costa's face. What a nutter.

Costa won the unanimous vote, despite all the dirty tricks.
He was gracious in his victory and said: "Rockhold surprised us with his chin.
He has a lot of creative shots, especially on his face and chin. He has a great chin, despite being accused of having a poor chin.
Rockhold confirmed his retirement from UFC and said: "I've seen so much in the last few years.
"Thanks to UFC, this is impossible for me anymore. "I gave it all, but I'm too old."
