Boxing Star Switches to MMA
British boxing sensation Savannah Marshall is set to make her MMA debut on June 8, joining the Professional Fighters League (PFL) after signing a deal last year. The undisputed super-middleweight world champion will headline the PFL Europe card in Newcastle, with her opponent yet to be confirmed.
Exciting New Challenge
Marshall expressed her excitement about the transition, stating, "It's exciting, it's new, it's something that I'm really interested in. It's BJJ, kickboxing, judo, wrestling - a mix of sports I've never tried before. I feel good in training at times, and other times I'm getting tapped out, but it's all part of the challenge."
Rivalry with Claressa Shields
Marshall, who last won in July to claim all four 168lb titles, is shifting her focus to MMA where she aims to seek revenge against arch rival Claressa Shields. Both Marshall and Shields are now signed with the PFL, setting the stage for a highly anticipated rematch in the SmartCage.
PFL CEO on Marshall's Debut
PFL CEO Peter Murray commented on the upcoming clash, saying, "Savannah and Claressa Shields competed in one of the most-watched women's boxing matchups. Now, with Savannah's MMA debut, the two are on a collision course for a rematch wearing four-ounce gloves and settling the score in the PFL SmartCage."
