The Diamond insists that McGregor would have been broken if the leg break had not occurred.

Poirier dismissed the notion that the Irishman would have won the rubber match if his leg had not been broken.

Former interim UFC lightweight champion stated that "if his leg didn't have broken, I would have broken his heart."

"The fight was terrible for him. "I was in complete control."

Poirier, 32 believes McGregor's terrible injury saved him from another consecutive loss.

He said, "I saw the same look in his eyes of despair that I saw in Abu Dhabi."

"I was going knock him out. He was not going to fight me for five rounds."

Poirier's back to back wins over McGregor earned him a second chance at the lightweight title. He'll be challenging champion Charles Oliveira in the main event at UFC 269 in Las Vegas.

Although the pride of Louisiana failed to win UFC gold in his first attempt, he plans to regain it by taking Oliveira into deeper waters.

He stated that he would like the fight to reach the point where the world can see the results (if Oliveira is able to dig deep)

"That's my goal; to get this fight in deep waters and see who wants it more, who is willing bleed more, and then leave it all there. Because I know that I will. No question about it.

"But, going to Justin's words, dude. I've said that.

"I repeat the same thing over and over in every interview.

It may seem corny, but when a fighter goes on the ring, his last fight is the most important.

"He (Oliveira), got hurt, came back in the second round and showed his championshipgrit and finished Michael Chandler; a man that took Justin to absolute hell.

"So, that's a good sign. You're as good or better than your last fight. He is a world champion."
