Ngannou Walks Out on UFC
UFC boss Dana White is not one to hold back, and he recently hit out at what he deemed a "dumb question" about the possibility of cross-promoting a fight between Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou. Ngannou had previously signed with the Professional Fighters League (PFL) and made a switch to boxing to fight Tyson Fury after the UFC failed to secure the super-fight.
No Interest in Cross-Promotion
When asked about the potential for a cross-promotion between the UFC and PFL, White responded with a resounding "I'm not interested." He explained that the UFC had tried to make the fight happen, but Ngannou and his team did not want to proceed. White questioned why he should co-promote with a rival organization when he had already attempted to make the fight within the UFC. He dismissed the notion as a "stupid question."
Ngannou's Next Moves
Ngannou left the UFC after being denied the chance to pursue a boxing match, similar to Conor McGregor's bout against Floyd Mayweather in 2017. He went on to face Tyson Fury in Saudi Arabia, where he dropped the world champion and narrowly lost on points. Now, Ngannou is focused on a rematch with Fury after Fury's upcoming title fight against Oleksandr Usyk in February.
Jones' Fight Postponed
Meanwhile, Jon Jones was set to fight Stipe Miocic at UFC 295, but the bout has been postponed due to an injury Jones sustained. British fighter Tom Aspinall stepped in on short notice and secured a knockout victory over Sergei Pavlovich, earning the interim heavyweight title in the process.
