Francis Ngannou, UFC heavyweight champion, has criticised the promotion for not allowing fighters sponsors to wear their shorts.
The promotion's now-defunct Reebok deal was signed in 2014. Before that, fighters could make quite a lot by wearing sponsors' logos on fight kits.
Before 2014's Reebok deal, UFC fighters made money from sponsors who were not wealthy.
Heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou slammed UFC for not allowing short sponsor
Ngannou claimed that he missed out on a PS840,000 deal because of the UFC's crypto partnership
Ngannou, 35 years old, joined the UFC one year after their promotion inked the PS58million agreement with their former supplier of kit. However, he still feels that he and his coworkers are being denied an additional source for income.
The Predator stated that sponsorship is a way for fighters to get ripped off. The company continues to exploit this for their own profit, even though it's a significant source of revenue.
"I get that uniforms are important for the sport, but we should have at least two approved sponsors in the octagon."
Ngannou secured sponsorship with the UFC after he was allegedly unable to secure a PS840,000 deal because of the promotion's partnership.
He raged, "Last Year I lost a deal worth over a million dollars due to a partnership with CRYPTO.COM. What have I gained from it?"
Ngannou expressed frustration with the promotion's latest move after Luke Rockhold, former champion of the middleweight division, voiced his opinions on the UFC’s pay structure.
Rockhold stated that the UFC 278 media conference was a failure. They are letting Dana White (UFC 278 media day) run the show and suppressing the sport.
"They must grow, the whole f***ing mess needs to grow together. Our lives are in jeopardy.
"Healthcare must be taken care, our f**king bodies need to be looked after. My health has not been taken care.
Ngannou, after hearing Rockhold's rant said that "Listening Luke [Rockhold] interview was very relevant."
"There are many things nobody talks about and the company just goes along with them."
Ngannou is currently recovering from knee surgery. However, his Octagon future remains in doubt.
The contract of the Cameroonian-born Frenchman with UFC ends in December. Talks over a new lucrative deal have not been fruitful.
Ngannou is keen to remain with the promotion, even though they have not yet agreed to his request for a hybrid MMA bout with Tyson Fury.
