Fans were captivated by Conor McGregor’s tongue-in cheek reply to Paige VanZant’s Instagram post.
VanZant, a former UFC star who became a bare-knuckle wrestler and boxer, had a similar rise to fame to McGregor. The two have mutual respect.
VanZant posted a pre-training photo to her 3.2 Million Instagram followers with the caption: "You have two choices. You can choose courage, or comfort. But you can't choose one."
McGregor's cheeky response to the comments by "I can" was a reference to McGregor's extravagant lifestyle as one of the wealthiest athletes in the world.
McGregor's response sent McGregor fans into a frenzy with hatred. One person asked: "Is this why I fell asleep against Dustin?" You chose comfort."
Another responded: "It's fitting that you see Paige's comments. Two washed-up fighters."
VanZant was asked today by a fan to answer a question on her Instagram Story. She said she hadn't seen McGregor's comment.
VanZant was not a rising star, but her name kept coming up and her UFC career ended. She made some decent money, and became a well-known name in the sport.
VanZant's mega-money deal with the Bare Knuckle Fighter Championship has made her a millionaire. She has headlined two pay per view shows and lost both.
Fantime also offers a subscription service where she sells exclusive content and a large number of brand deals via her social media channels.
The American is working on her AEW debut and a Bareknuckle return.
McGregor, on the other side, has been engaging in late-night social media ramblings as he teases a return to his octagon.
He had Twitter beefs with Tony Ferguson and Henry Cejudo, for which he later apologized.
Although McGregor's recent social media presence indicates that he is trying to get his name out there, it remains to be seen whether McGregor will make a comeback to the Octagon this year.
