UFC may place Justin Gaethje "on hold" in order to allow Conor McGregor and champ Charles Oliveira to meet in a summer comeback fight

JUSTIN GAETHJE could be placed 'on hold' at the UFC so Conor McGregor can face lightweight champ Charles Oliveira.

UFC supremo Dana White has recently named fan favourite Gaethje No.1 contender to the 155lb belt after Oliveira's victory against Dustin Poirier.

Ex-UFC title challenger Chael Sun believes Gaethje might be beaten by Conor McGregor

McGregor could still walk into a title fight after his return, but the MMA mogul has not stopped McGregor from thinking about it.

Ex-title challenger Chael Sonnen believes that this, along with Oliveira’s recent call out of The Notorious could spell bad news to Gaethje.

On his YouTube channel, he stated that Conor McGregor was going to fight Charles Oliveira for the title.

Charles Oliveira, a man who can support the story, is here. Charles replied, "Justin Gaethje has done everything right, it's not disrespect, but I'm taking my red panty night."

"Okay, so we must listen to the champions of the world. We are not going to disrespect Justin Gaethje, but we will put that on hold.

"Oliveira has the freedom to do what is best for him, and he has made it clear that he will not allow the number one contender to win the race, no matter who it may be. Justin Gaethje.

"But, regardless of who it is, he'll push them aside if it means red pantsy night against Conor McGregor."

Sonnen believes White's willingness for McGregor to plead for a title shot is telling.

He stated: "So Daniel Cormier... He's having an informal discussion with Dana White, and that topic came up.

"Dana was absolutely not committed to that, but 'Yeah this's the direction that we're going and we would fight that fight.

"But Dana did speak on Conor McGregor's behalf. It was: "Stop there Daniel, and everyone else who thinks Conor shouldn't be able fight Oliveira.

"Conor has always been willing to fight anyone, whenever we have needed him.

"So, if Conor's going to come in and request one, I'm going listen to him."

McGregor, 33 years old, is currently recuperating from the terrible broken leg sustained in his fight with Poirier in July. He is aiming to return this summer.

Gaethje is still enjoying the high from his bloody and hard-fought victory over Michael Chandler at UFC 268, however.
