He injured his ankle when he did a leg kick in the first round.
Smith continued fighting despite the blow until the second round, when he was defeated by Ankalaev.
UFC President Dana White acknowledged that he made a mistake in his assessment of the American during the immediate aftermath.
White told reporters that he had suffered no fractures after the fight. He later corrected this statement.
He stated that he had broken his leg and his leg.
They found the fracture in his leg. It was hard to find, as it was located in a strange place.
