Kevin Holland claims to have subdued the gunman following a Monday night shooting at a Houston sushi restaurant.

A gunman stormed into the restaurant at 11.30pm local time and fired one shot into the air.

Eyewitnesses claim that most diners fled in panic, according to an eyewitness.

Holland, a UFC fighter, and two other diners surrounded the shooter at the restaurant to stop him firing another round.

They managed to subdue the gunman and wrestle him away from the ground, just as the police arrived.

Patrick Robinson, one of the men who subdued Holland's gunman, said to ABC 13 that he was eating when he heard a gunshot and then he was gone.

"So everything stopped and everyone ran to get under a table.

"We apprehended him and took the gun and bag from him.

According to ABC 13, the shooter faces charges of possessing and firing a weapon stolen from him.

Holland isn't the only one to be vigilante hero.

Five months ago, an American fighter noticed a car robbery in his neighborhood.

The alleged robber then followed him in his Dodge Charger, before following him on foot.

Shug Dorsey posted video online showing Holland standing above the man being held by police.

Holland had just days before fought Kyle Daukaus in Las Vegas to a no contest.
