Ngannou's Boxing Debut Against Tyson Fury
Former UFC star Francis Ngannou is set to make his professional boxing debut against undefeated WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. The highly anticipated 10-round showcase will take place in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night.
Ngannou's Departure from UFC
Ngannou's upcoming boxing match will mark his return to combat action since leaving the UFC in January. But what was the reason behind the MMA star's departure from the promotion?
Freedom over Money
In an interview with Ariel Helwani's MMA Hour show, Ngannou revealed that his decision to leave the UFC was driven by a desire for "freedom," rather than money. Despite receiving a lucrative contract offer, Ngannou felt that he had no power and wanted to maintain control over his own destiny.
Ngannou stated, "It's a matter of principle. Money is a part of it, but it's not all about money." He also expressed his disappointment with the UFC's refusal to provide health insurance for all fighters and their rejection of his request for athletes to have their own sponsorship deals.
Dana White's Response
UFC president Dana White confirmed Ngannou's departure, stating that the promotion had offered him a deal that would have made him the highest-paid heavyweight of all time. However, Ngannou turned down the offer, leading to his release from the contract.
Ngannou's UFC Career
Ngannou had an impressive career in the UFC, holding the heavyweight title for nearly two years before being stripped of it after leaving the promotion. During his time in the UFC, Ngannou won 17 fights, with 12 wins by knockout, four wins by submission, and one win by decision. He suffered three losses, all by decision.

The highly anticipated clash between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 28. The fight will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with ring-walks expected to begin around 10pm UK time.
