According to the Wrestling Observer McMahon is the one who convinced him to sign the dotted line.
Steveson spoke candidly about what WWE fans can expect if he signs up for the company.
Sports Illustrated asked him: "If ever I go to WWE, I'd like to be a Paul Heyman guy."
"Heyman is a legend. Two people would do great things together, which would make us a formidable team.
"And I have known Brock (Lesnar), since high school.
"He has been there for me for many years, making sure that I do things right and put my best foot forward."
He also shared that UFC and WWE stars have given him lots of support.
Steveson said, "WWE is so great to me.
"Triple H. Brock, Heyman and Ric Flair, as well as so many others, have been so supportive.
"So have UFC fighters like Jon Jones, Daniel Cormier and Henry Cejudo who also sent me their congratulations.
"So many great teams and organisations have reached out. The Ravens have a connection to a scout who came from the Bills.
"The Olympic gold medal has helped me to see the world. My next move is going to be a major decision. "I'm going to take a break now and reflect on it."
Fans can look forward to Steveson's future storylines and his position in the new organization, with the WWE having seemingly won the race.
