Canelo, now at super-middleweight and undisputed king of the boxing world, has many opponents in line.
The Mexican-American Benavidez (24), has a 24-year-old streak of 23 knockouts in 26 wins.
Mike Tyson calls him the "Mexican Monster", and many believe he is Canelo's toughest challenge at 168lb.
Canelo had already accepted a DAZN two-fight agreement - against Bivol, GGG - but he declined a three-bout PBC package which included Benavidez.

The 32-year-old Texan is the WBC champion at Middleweight, but has been hinting at a possible move to face Canelo.
PBC offered him as an option in the three-fight deal. His personality and unbeaten record were a plus for his fans.
Due to Texas's heavy Mexican presence, Canelo has headlined in Texas before.

Canelo, 35-year-old heavyweight champion, and Usyk, 35-year old Heavyweight Champion, have opened the doors to an exceptional catchweight clash.
Ukraine's boxing legend said that he was willing to fight the sport's most famous star, who is 201lb and 1lb below the cruiserweight limit.
Canelo stated this month, "It's hard, but it's not that difficult. That kind of challenge is what I enjoy."
Although it is unlikely that the pair will fight again, it is not impossible to rule out an eventual fight.
