After the Brit rival loses his belt, Anthony Joshua could be ordered to fight Daniel Dubois in WBA World Title bout

ANTHONY JOSHUA may soon be allowed to fight Daniel Dubois, after the WBA has abolished their 'interim titles'.

Recently, the governing body announced that they would eliminate the ineffective and unpopular secondary belts.

Dubois (23 years old) and Chris Eubank Jr. (31 years old), were among those affected. They were both interim title holders.

Instead, the WBA will make mandatory challengers of the stripped champions.

This means that Dubois or the 'Regular Champion' Trevor Bryan could be ordered to fight for Joshua’s belt.

Both heavyweights will have to wait to be called up to challenge AJ. The WBA is second.

Joshua defeated 40-year-old mandatory Kubrat Pulev in December. He won it in nine rounds.

He was then immediately directed to fight WBO No1 Oleksandr Uzyk (34), in a mandatory defense, scheduled for September 25 at Tottenham Stadium.

Joshua will defend the WBA title next, with Bryan and Dubois waiting.

AJ's WBA against Alexander Povetkin (40), was in 2018.

All four governing bodies accepted that Joshua, 31 and Tyson Fury 32 would renege on their mandates in order to unify belts.

All terms were agreed upon for the first ever, undisputed four-belt title decider to be held on August 14th in Saudi Arabia.

Fury, 35, failed to win his bid to leave a contacted trilogy bout with Deontay Wester, 35. He won his right to an instant rematch in arbitration.

Wilder, who was drawn to his opponent in 2018, but was defeated in 2020, will now have another chance at the Gypsy King in October 9.

Joshua will be watching the winner with interest, as he fights a month before the match. He hopes the governing bodies will once again prioritize unifications over mandatories.

Joe Joyce, 35 (who beat Dubois November) is now AJ's WBO obligatory, but Usyk next in the line will make him wait even longer.
