The conversation immediately turned to the future of boxing's No1 pound-for-pound contender.

Russian Beterbiev is the only champion in the sport with a 100% knockout rate and has been considered a potential threat to Canelo.

Marcus Browne (30), will challenge him for his WBC and IBF light heavyweight titles.

However, Canelo, 31 years old, was granted permission by the WBC to compete for the green and gold title of 175lb.

Sky Sports spoke with Mauricio Sulaiman, president of WBC: "It'd be a fantastic match. Beterbiev is undefeated and he is a heavy, powerful puncher.

"He would pose a strong threat to Canelo’s legacy." Canelo is determined to continue on, so let's wait and see.

Alvarez has only fought once at light-heavyweight. In November 2019, he defeated Sergey Kovalev (38), to win the WBO title.

He then moved down to super-middleweight, and within 11 months, he won all four titles.

Beterbiev, 36 has been in 18 KOs in as much as 20 fights, and is considered one of the most dangerous punchers in boxing.

Canelo's incessant activity during the past year has left him with a need for vital rest. He announced that he will likely be back in May.

Alvarez will determine his next opponent in January. He hinted that he would defend his titles rather than move up in weight.

He stated, "We are always searching for the best fights, and defending the title is always important."

"When the time is right, we'll think about the future. We might see the future in January.

"I don't have anything in particular right now. "I'm up for any challenge. But we will see next year."
