Former WBO super-middleweight champion, Billy Joe Saunders, recently opened up about a cringe-worthy moment he had with tennis legend, Sir Andy Murray, during their time as Team GB teammates at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
A Friendly Game of FIFA Gone Wrong
Saunders, known for his playful nature, decided to unwind one evening by inviting Murray to a game of FIFA. However, his invitation was met with a hostile response.
"Another example of how immature I was happened in the Olympic Village, where obviously all of the athletes from every sport stay together," Saunders admitted during an appearance on Up Front with Simon Jordan.
"One night I knocked on Andy Murray’s door at midnight asking if he wanted to play FIFA, when he had a match the next day. That’s how childish I was mentally. Andy basically just told me to f**k off really. It was basically just, 'What are you doing?' Then he slammed the door shut."

Nearly Kicked Off the Team
Saunders also revealed that his "childish mentality" almost cost him his spot on the Team GB squad even before the tournament began.
"I actually nearly never ended up going to the Olympics. I almost got sent home before it started in my training camp," Saunders confessed.
He went on to recall a daring adventure he and fellow boxer Frankie Gavin embarked on to escape the confines of the training camp.
"Me and Frankie decided to steal two jet skis outside of the hotel. We thought two people were chasing us when we were using them out at sea, so me and him started doing ‘moonies’ to them."

A Comeback on the Horizon
Billy Joe Saunders, who hasn't fought since his loss to Canelo Alvarez in May 2021, is eyeing a comeback in December. Fans are eagerly awaiting his return to the ring.
