BOXER is stable but in critical condition following her defeat by her opponent in Montreal's Saturday night event.
Marie-Pier Houle stopped Jeanette Zacarias Zapata (18), before she collapsed to the ground moments later. She was then taken to hospital.
Zapata was participating in her sixth professional bout at GYM Gala Boxing in Canada.
At the end of the fourth round, Houle hit the teenager several times. The teenager was still holding onto the ropes when the bell rang.
Referee immediately went to Zapata's aid and stopped the fight.
Although the Mexican star was clearly unable to continue, Houle was still on her feet as she celebrated her TKO win.
Just moments later, Zapata started having convulsions just before Jovanni Martinez, her trainer, laid her on the ring.
She was admitted to hospital and put in an induction coma. Doctors described her condition as stable but critical.
Event organiser Yvon Michel told Global News: "She didn't regain consciousness.
"She was put to sleep in order to rest her brain and body.
"The doctors gave her little hope [to escape] at first, but she is now in a much better place.
"The next two to six days will be crucial and she will be sedated for that time.
"The next six week will be crucial in determining whether there is damage to the property and how severe it is."
Opponent Houle said: "This isn't the thing that you want to see."
"I was going for the knockout. But I would have preferred that she come out on her own feet and not on a stretcher.
"We are keeping our fingers crossed that all goes well."
