Caleb Plant may have suffered from eye injury in Canelo Alvarez brawl, which could have had an impact on sparring preparations. Carl Frampton fears

CARL FRAMPTON is concerned that Caleb Plant's cut from his brawl with Canelo alvarez may have affected his training camp.

Canelo will face the unbeaten American in the first ever undisputed super-middleweight title decider this weekend.

Caleb Plant was injured in the brawl at the press conference.

The fight was about to begin five weeks earlier when the two clashed at the Los Angeles press conference.

Plant, 29 years old, threw the first slap, but Canelo (31), responded with two more, leaving his opponent with a blemished eye.

Frampton, a retired Northern Irish boxing legend, believes that the potential dismay at the gash is not being noticed.

He stated that he believed the cut had affected him.

"I believe it was about five weeks ago when it occurred. It wasn't the worst.

"But it was certainly a cut that affected sparring preparation, and I imagine Plant was about five weeks back in the middle his tough sparring.

He may have needed to wear a full-face guard for a week because he could not spare to let the cut heal.

"Some people don’t like them so I believe the cut definitely had an effect on Plant’s preparation."

Canelo holds titles in four divisions: light-middleweight, light-heavyweight, and light-middleweight.

He was only defeated once against Floyd Mayweather (now 44), at 23 years old.

Gennady, Canelo's middleweight opponent, is the closest to losing. The Kazakh was unlucky to draw in 2017, before losing the rematch one year later.

Mayweather's style is different from GGG's, but Plant - 21-0 IBF champion gives Plant - two distinct blueprints to follow.

His decision to bring in Andre Ward (retired in 2016 at 32-0) and his trainer Virgil Hunter gives a clue to the game plan.

Frampton, 34 said that it was a good indicator of how he will approach the fight because Virgil Hunter, Andre Ward were there.

"It will be a more rational boxing approach than a stand and trade with Canelo. I believe that would be the wrong thing."

He can be fluid and smooth in fights. But sometimes, he gets a little sloppy and loses the fight.

"I believe they'll be drilling that into his head not do that this time."

"But, I think that if I were his coach, I would tell him to move. Don't stay on the ropes. Your jab must be landing.

"But it's much easier said than done when fighting Canelo."
