Rule Change Requested by UFC Legend
Fans are in for a surprise as the upcoming boxing match between Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou will have a different set of rules. The rule change for this heavyweight bout was requested by the former UFC champion himself.
Shorter Fight Duration
Unlike traditional professional bouts that typically last for 12 rounds, Joshua and Ngannou will face off in a 10-round match. This adjustment was made at Ngannou's request, marking a unique twist for this anticipated showdown at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Ngannou's Boxing Debut
Ngannou, known for his success in mixed martial arts with a 17-3 professional record, made his boxing debut against Tyson Fury over 10 rounds. Despite knocking down Fury in their match, Ngannou was defeated by split decision.
Ngannou's Decision
Ngannou explained his choice for the 10-round format, stating, "They told me 12 and I said ‘No, cut it out.’ I’m not taking a Mike Tyson fight as a reference like ‘Oh, I’m a pro boxer now’. I just came into it, they asked for ten rounds or 12 rounds, and I said ten."

Open to Mixed Rules Event
In a previous statement, Ngannou hinted at the possibility of a mixed rules event with Joshua, showcasing his versatility in combat sports. He expressed willingness to compete in both the ring and the octagon, emphasizing his confidence in navigating different fighting environments.
