In 2018, Douglas spoke with ESPN ahead of a 30-for-30 documentary about his shock victory.

He stated, "It was wonderful, especially going over to Tokyo. We went back to Tokyo Dome, walked through downtown Tokyo. It was really rewarding.

"I knew going into the fight that no one was giving my a chance. But I believed, and so did my people. That was the motivation.

"I couldn't care less what other people think because if that were the case, I wouldn't have turned pro."

"I knew that I was here with no chance."

Douglas said, "My training sessions where calm and peaceful.

"Just me and my trainers at the gym. Mike would be our next in line, so we could all come in together and have chairs turned around and do whatever it takes to get there.

"And when my camp arrived, it was just us. It was motivation.

Douglas won his famous victory, but he only fought once more for the world title in his career.
