A Monday statement stated that the British Boxing Board of Control would investigate the scoring of this competition and provide advice accordingly.

After gifting Taylor an inexplicably easy win of 114-112, Ian John-Lewis has one of the most difficult numbers to defend.

This was despite the Scotsman, 31, making a slow start and getting floored in round 8. He also had a point deducted at end of 11th.

Victor Loughlin was a brilliant referee of Kell Brook's victory over Amir Khan last Thursday, pulling the Bolton braveheart from the flames when he was at serious risk.

After calling it 113-112 for the home fighter, he will examine his judgment of the Glasgow headliner.

Howard Foster was the only judge to correctly determine the result, but it seemed unfair to give it to Catterall at 28 years old by 112-113.

Taylor, the undefeated super-lightweight champion - for which Taylor must not be held responsible - was supposed to win on paper.

Top Rank, his American promoters, had flown in 30 executives to the fight he was expected win.

Catterall, however, put on an impressive performance, with the help of trainers Jamie Moore, Nigel Travis and Nigel Travis. However, Catterall was robbed after the scores were revealed.

Sky Sports' commentary team was shocked when Ben Shalom, the new promoter of Sky Sports, boldly stated that he was "embarrassed" by his actions and demanded an inquiry at the BBBofC.

Unfortunately, it is expected that the three long-serving officials will be called in as a rationalization of their scoring. Their explanations will be accepted and a short demotion will be the harshest punishment.

Miguel Vazquez lost a similar point loss in October 2020 against Lewis Ritson of Newcastle, Peterborough.

Terry O'Connor's 117-112 card in the Brit favourite's corner was the worst that this reporter had ever seen live.

O'Connor was reduced to a few smaller shows, including South Kirkby Redditch, Bolton, and a Sheffield carpark during lockdown. But he returned to major time boxing at the Chris Eubank Jr victory over Liam Williams in Cardiff at February's start.

Taylor immediately revealed in the aftermath that he will be releasing his belts and lifting up to 147lbs.

Catterall won't get the chance to compete in any of the major belts.

WBC, WBA and IBF have their own ranking of fighters who are waiting to be eligible for each belt.

British boxing recognizes Catterall, the uncrowned king in the 10th division, and will continue to push for justice.
