Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk was so focused on training for his upcoming fight against Tyson Fury that he missed the birth of his newborn daughter.
Oleksandr Usyk made the difficult decision to set up his training camp in Valencia, Spain, in preparation for the fight of his life against Tyson Fury. However, disaster struck just two weeks before the scheduled bout when Fury suffered a severe cut in sparring, forcing him to withdraw from the fight. This news came as a devastating blow to Usyk, who had been so dedicated to his training that he missed the birth of his daughter last Thursday.
Training partner reveals the sacrifice Usyk made
Odiase, Usyk's sparring partner, revealed the extent of the sacrifice Usyk made by staying in Spain while his wife gave birth in Ukraine. Odiase said, "He was so focused on camp that he stayed in Spain and missed it for that, so it's extra annoying I can imagine. He looked the best in this camp, as good as ever. I think he felt it as well. He was in good shape and then boom, the fight is postponed."
Remaining focused despite the setback
Despite the disappointment, Odiase believes that Usyk will remain focused and not let the situation distract him. Odiase said, "As the man he is, I don't think he will get distracted. You've got to stay cool, calm, and collected because if you let that stuff get in your head, it's not good for you."
Oleksandr Usyk and his wife Yekaterina have been married for 15 years and now have four children together. It is yet to be seen whether Usyk will remain in camp after the fight was postponed, as a new date of May 18 has been announced.

Usyk's readiness for the fight
Odiase revealed that Usyk has been peaking in his training camp and is prepared for the style that Fury will bring to the table. Odiase said, "He's in really good form and is prepared for the style Fury is going to bring."
It remains to be seen how Usyk will bounce back from this setback and if he will be able to defeat Tyson Fury in their rescheduled fight.
