OSCAR DE LA HOYA has been discharged from the hospital following contracting coronavirus.
After falling ill, the boxing legend had his big ring return cancelled. Evander Holyfield, a fellow Hall-Of-Famer, stepped in to fight Vitor Belfort in UFC.
The 48-year old American shared a video on Facebook showing how things are going.
He stated, "Hey guys! I'm out the hospital." Covid really hit me hard, I was there for three days.
"I was in the most fit of my life, and I can't wait for the ring to return."
"Thanks very much for all the well wishes and support. IK appreciate it."
Since December 2008, when Manny Pacquiao stopped De La Hoya from continuing to fight between the ropes, De La Hoya is not back in battle.
He shared an online video from his hospital bed and said that the disease had "really kicked me ass."
The coach of the man De La Hoya was supposed to fight is "sceptical" that De La Hoya has even contracted Covid-19.
Derik Santos said to Vegas Insider, "I'm trying not to disrespect Oscar. I saw the video.
"But, if I'm honest, I'm still skeptical. It didn't feel right.
"The severity of the situation. It is possible to get Covid even if you are double-vaccinated. But it just didn't seem right.
"Maybe he realized that we were taking this fight seriously. I don't know."
"As far I know, their side did not try to jump out of the way and reschedule as others have. So yeah, I'm a bit skeptical.
He even posted the following: "I think that he thought, ‘What have I got myself into’ We were there to give him a good boxing match. We were ready.
"If the man has Covid, then I wish him well. I'm only mildly skeptical."
Evander Holyfield will face Belfort (44), in the Triller fight. The contest was moved to Florida because the California State Athletic Commission declined to sanction the new opponent.
Holyfield, a former heavyweight champion, has been planning a return for some time. He is now 58 years old.
