Manny Pacquiao with his long-time trainer Freddie Roach
The legend of boxing has not yet revealed how many fights have he left during his long and distinguished career.
Freddie Roach, a long-time trainer, admitted that it might be his last one. However, he is not treating it as the beginning of the end.
Roach stated that "Manny doesn’t have to play his oldies." He continues to produce new hits.
"He has not cut any corners in training camp. None. He ran up Griffith Park hills straight to the Hollywood sign.
He does thousands of sit-ups every day. He trains three days a week and hits every bag in the gym with bad intentions every single day.
He is still the hardest worker I've ever trained, and a keen student. He is adamant about this job.
"Manny doesn't train so hard to say goodbye. It's to show he's still around. Manny might be influenced by Philippine politics.
"Maybe this Manny's last fight. Manny is grateful that he has been training this summer for his greatest victory.
"It's the stuff of which greatness is made."
Pacquiao (42 years old) will be out of the ring for more than two years when he faces Spence (31), having not returned to the ring after beating Keith Thurman (32) in July 2019.
In the time since, he was without Hall of Famer Roach because of the coronavirus pandemic. This left the Filipino icon housebound at Manila.
After nearly 24 months of communication over the telephone, he finally connected with his Los Angeles coach.
SunSport's Roach said that although they have not been together for almost two years, they kept in touch.
"He knows my birthday and I know his, but we suck on a phone. We are not good at the telephone.
"He sends me audiotapes of his workouts, and I send back my thoughts. We stay close and it works well.
Spence won this big, important fight. I called Spence and congratulated him. I also said, "Thank you for choosing a fighter." These actors are trying to be fighters and I am tired of them being so popular.
"These two are the best fighters around, I can't get enough of them. Manny is doing well, and he keeps getting better.
