Love Island star Tommy Fury reflects on his experiences fighting YouTubers
Tommy Fury, the 24-year-old Love Island star and professional boxer, recently shared his thoughts on the difficulty of fighting YouTubers compared to traditional boxers. Despite his undefeated record and success in the ring, Fury claims that facing non-professionals presents a unique set of challenges that make it harder than going up against seasoned boxers.
Undefeated record and influencer bouts
Before delving into the world of influencer bouts, Fury amassed an impressive record of 8-0 as a professional boxer. However, his foray into mega-money fights against YouTubers such as Jake Paul and KSI proved to be a different ball game altogether.
Controversial victory in Battle of Britain
In a highly anticipated clash with KSI, Fury emerged victorious with a points victory in a razor-thin fight. Initially awarded a majority decision, the result was later changed to a unanimous victory due to a scorecard being read out incorrectly. Despite the controversial win, Fury's rival KSI has since hired a lawyer to appeal the loss in its entirety.
Challenges of fighting non-pros
Fury believes that facing YouTubers and novices in the ring is much more difficult than competing against seasoned boxers. According to him, non-professionals do not possess the same level of skill and experience, resulting in unpredictable and messy fights. Fury emphasized the challenges of dealing with punches coming from unexpected angles and opponents who are constantly evading engagement.
Looking to return to traditional boxing
Despite his success and financial gains from influencer bouts, Fury expressed a desire to return to traditional boxing and showcase his skills against more conventional opponents. He reminisced about his time sparring with solid professionals and confidently putting on clinics in the gym, which has motivated him to pursue a return to his roots.
KSI's tactics and Fury's disappointment
Reflecting on his recent fight with KSI, Fury criticized his opponent's performance, claiming that KSI's plan was to clinch and avoid engaging in a stand-up fight. Fury expressed disappointment in the lack of action and engagement, stating that it was challenging to fight someone who had no intention of trading blows and winning the fight.
Tommy Fury's experiences in the world of influencer boxing have shed light on the unique challenges posed by facing non-professional opponents. Despite his undefeated record as a professional boxer, Fury's encounters with YouTubers have left him yearning for the more predictable and conventional nature of traditional boxing.
