Tributes to Tyson Fury’s cousin after Rico Burton, 31, knifed to death outside pub

MOVING tributes were paid to Tyson Fury’s cousin, following his tragic stabbing death early this morning.

In shock Instagram post, Rico Burton shared the sad news about Rico Burton's passing.

Rico, 31 years old, was reportedly stabbed in the neck in a bar in Altrincham in Manchester, just after 3am.

As a young man, he had been trained by Fury before becoming a roofer. Friends said that he had been selling cars in recent years.

Fury, the two-time heavyweight champion of the world, called for an end to knife crime.

"This is absurd - idiots have knives." This must stop.

The 34-year old called for a higher sentence for knife crime and said that it was a pandemic.

"Until you have to go through it, you don't realize how difficult it can be."

Life is precious, and you can take it away quickly. Take every moment and enjoy it.

"RIP Rico Burton, may the Lord God grant you a place in heaven, and see you soon."

Rico and Fury's former coach Steve Egan said that he was devastated to learn of the tragedy.

Rico, 60, is a coach at Jimmy Egan Boxing Academy, Manchester. He said Rico won two national titles as a junior fighter at the gym and boxed there until he was 19.

He quit the gym to pursue a career as a roofer and builder.

Seconds Away was told by Steve: "I taught Rico. He's a wonderful lad. I'm devastated.

"I feel like crying. Since he was 13, I have known him and his brother. He was a genius.

"He was always a grunter, he worked hard, and he worked so hard inside the ring.

"He was a great fella. I used to call his our Billy Joe Saunders, because he was such an excellent fighter.

Rico had "no bad bones", he said.

He said, "I couldn't see him getting into trouble with anyone or starting trouble. He wasn't that kind of lad."

"I am absolutely devastated. It's a cowardly game.

"A knife should be carried in your pocket for five years. It's stupid."

"His mam will be devastated. It's going to end her off.

He was always smiling and knew his boxing was great. He loves his mom, his brother, and his cousin.

TYSON'S GRIEF

After receiving reports that two men were stabbed, police rushed to Goose Green's scene.

Rico was taken to the hospital, but unfortunately, he died shortly afterwards.

Unidentified 17-year-old remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

21-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of assault. Police are now investigating the murder.

Steve stated today that Rico had "always admired" Fury.

He said that Tyson was a hero and that he wanted to be like his.

"He was close to Tyson, and they would spar and were the best of friends."

"HIS MUM WILL BE DEVASTATED"

Eddie Nevins, a family friend, said that he was a funny guy and a decent fighter. He is someone we looked up too as children.

Rico's death is amidst a wave knife- and gun violence in the UK, with much of it concentrated in London.

Four men were stabbed to death in Brixton last night. Seven suspects have been arrested for attempted murder.

Lee Byer, 44, was arrested earlier this week for the murder of Thomas O'Halloran. The 87 year-old victim was riding his mobility scooter when he was attacked by Greenford.

Police recorded 49,027 knife offenses in that period, the highest percentage increase since 2019.

Knife crime also increased by nearly 50 percent compared to March 2012, when it was at its lowest.
