Tyson Fury, who was 6ft 4in tall and 14 STONE at the time he started to train at an amateur gym when he was 14, was banned from boxing juniors.

TYSON FURY was prohibited from competing in junior competitions as a teenager because he weighed a staggering 14 STONE.

The WBC heavyweight champion, bruising and imposing, was an enormous talent from a young age. He dwarfed all his training and sparring buddies.

Fury's size meant that he could not keep his junior status until he was 15.

Steve Egan, an amateur coach, was unable to see the Gypsy King in action because of his size as a teenager.

SunSport spoke with Egan: He was 6'4" and 14 stone when he came to our gym at age 14, 2002.

"One day, I turned to my father and said, "He's going be the heavyweight champion in the world."

"I told Tyson that I was going to be the heavyweight world champion; he didn’t tell me.

He loved the fact that I had told him that he would be so good. He believed it. He was always a good sport.

He was too large to fight in the Juniors. He was too large for his age so I could not get him fights until he was 16.

"When he turned 14, there was no other person as big as him. Even at 15.

He had to wait until he was 16 before he could box both the 16-year olds and 17-years-olds. He couldn't compete before then."

Fury, a fan favourite, is one of the most confident fighters in the world. But that wasn't always true.

Egan said that he remembered wearing a pair of boots and a red boot when weighing in. Egan had two pairs, but he only did it to have a laugh.

"Yes, there was a lot of laughter back then, and it was funny.

He would often doubt himself as a young lad when things weren't going right in the gym. And he'd say, "How can I be world champ when I can't do that?" '"

Egan tried his best to eliminate Brother Shane's self-doubt.

Egan stated that he once sparred with his brother Shane and Shane did well. Tyson moaning that he couldn't beat Shane as a novice.

"I told him that Shane knows you better than anyone, and you've been playing around with Shane since you were little boys!"

"He's going to beat you one day. It's just one of those things. He will know you better than anyone else.

"So, today it was all fine for him because he knew exactly where you were coming.

Steve Egan, a former coach, knew Tyson Fury was bound for greatness.

"I said, "I wish I were as fucking garbage as you." '"

Fury, 33 years old, is currently preparing for a domestic-dust up with Dillian Whyte, her former sparring partner.

SunSport reports that the eagerly awaited Battle of Britain will take place on April 23rd, with Cardiff's Principality Stadium being a potential venue.
