Tyson Fury's Life-Altering Call
World heavyweight champion Tyson Fury was jolted out of his vacation in Majorca when he received a heart-wrenching call at 7am. His beloved cousin, Rico Burton, had been tragically stabbed to death outside a club in Cheshire. The news hit him hard, especially considering his struggles with bipolar disorder and retirement from the ring. Fury's wife, Paris, feared that this devastating incident would push him into a long and damaging depression.
The Impact on Tyson Fury
These heart-rending moments are captured in the new Netflix series At Home with the Furys. The documentary, which premiered on August 16, delves into the full impact of Rico's murder on "The Gypsy King." It reveals how the tragedy played a crucial role in Fury's triumphant comeback to the ring in December. The series also sheds light on the couple's concerns about the long-term effects of the sport, including brain damage and the balance between poor mental health in retirement and physical risks in the ring.
The Tragic Incident
Rico Burton lost his life after being stabbed in the neck with a seven-inch blade during a brawl outside a group of bars in Altrincham, Cheshire. The senseless murder shocked Tyson Fury and pushed him to post a heartfelt plea to end knife crime. Last week, Liam O'Pray, the 22-year-old responsible for the tragedy, was sentenced to life in prison at Manchester Crown Court.
A Night of Mourning
On the night of Rico's death, Tyson Fury, his father John, and Paris were gathered to watch the world heavyweight title bout between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk in Majorca. Little did they know that the celebratory mood would be shattered by the devastating news. The funeral of Rico, attended by hundreds, served as a poignant reminder of the loss suffered by the Fury family.
Tyson Fury, with his struggles and triumphs, continues to captivate audiences as he navigates the treacherous landscape of both professional boxing and personal tragedy.
