Watch Vasiliy Lomachenko quit boxing halfway through round to allow BEG Richard Commey to throw in the towel during bout

VASILIY LOMACHENKO stopped fighting midway through the seventh round, and urged Richard Commey's side to quit.

Lomachenko had just beaten the Ghanaian with an impressive left hand, and appeared well on his way towards victory.

Commey, aged 34, reached his feet, beat the count, but was still a little tired when he stood up.

Lomachenko, 33 years old, moved to the corner of the former IBF lightweight champion to end the fight.

Commey refused to comply and continued boxing until the 12th and last bell, but was decisively defeated on the cards.

Lomachenko was quizzed about his decision to ask Commey's team for help.

He replied, "I saw his situation. He was suffering. It was very difficult for him.

"But he is a true warrior, has heart, so we continued and showed 12 great rounds."

This was Lomachenko’s second comeback victory since the shocking defeat to Teofimo Lozano, 24, in Oct 2020.

Lopez, however, was shocked by George Kambosos Jr.'s 28-year-old win for the lightweight unified titles.

Lomachenko is now focused on Aussie Kambosos, and will even venture into the backyard of the new champ if necessary.

He stated that he would go wherever he needed to to defeat him. This is my chance. If God offers me the chance, I will take it."

Stars Devin Haney (23), Ryan Garcia (23), and Gervonta Davies (27) are also in the lightweight divisions.

Lomachenko said, "I have already stated that I don't like talking to myself."

"We have many great fighters in this weight division. We have many top fighters. We can organize many great fights in future."
