Yordenis Ugas retired Manny Pacquaio after he beat Terence Crawford in the amateurs. He is currently in talks to face Errol Spence Jr.

YORDENIS UGAS hopes that he will be the all-conquering welterweight champ by taking out stars from the past and the present.

The dangerous Cuban was an elusive presence in the 147lb division, until last August when he was allowed to have the opportunity of his life.

Ugas won WBA's welterweight title

Fabian Maidana (29), was to face him on the undercard for Manny Pacquiao’s unification fight with Errol Spence Jr.

After Spence, 31 suffered an eye injury while sparring, Ugas (35), was promoted to headline against Pacquiao, 43.

The 2008 Olympic bronze medalist was able to surprise PacMan on points and send the Filipino hero into retirement.

Ugas will remember Pacquiao as the last man to enter the squared circle.

SunSport interviewed him: "He has been an inspirational figure for me throughout my career.

"So, after sharing the ring and being inspired by a legend, I was even more motivated to continue working hard and fighting for my legacy.

"I have received tons of support from Cuban communities around the world. This to me is everything.

"I hope I can inspire youth all over the globe, just like the great champion with whom I shared the ring."

Ugas's new fame has allowed him to meet with Mario Diaz Balart, a US congressman, and keys to Miami. However, it came at the expense of his hero's retirement.

He said, "It's humble and an honor. He is one of the most outstanding fighters of all time. He gave me this opportunity, and I will never forget it."

Ugas will defend the WBA belt Pacquiao held once. He said that talks with American Spence, the unbeaten American Spence, are in the planning stages.

Ugas has already created the perfect 12-round strategy to beat PacMan. Now, Ugas will shock Spence with a new formula.

The keys to Miami were given to the welterweight champion

He stated, "Every fight's tough. There is no easy fight, and each fight is unique.

It will be a tough fight like any other, but my team has my complete confidence in their game plan. We will be prepared.

"My team is working on a strategy, and you will see it in action when we get into the ring.

"I have the best boxing team that supports me every single day, and no one works harder than we."

Spence has faced little difficulty in his 27-0 career. He beat the likes Kell Brook, 35, Shawn Porter 34, and Danny Garcia 33.

Outside of the ropes, he was in a horrible car accident in 2019, and only last year required an operation to repair the detached retina that he sustained in training.

Ugas stated that Spence would be in the ring 100% of the time.

Spence holds the unification WBC and IBF titles

Spence is long associated with Terence Crawford (34), undefeated WBO title holder. The pair were unable to reach an agreement.

However, a win by Ugas over the Texan could be the end of one of the most important fights in boxing.

Crawford is not a stranger to him, as he has beaten Crawford on points when they were both amateurs.

Ugas also warned that he was ready for lightening strikes to strike twice.

He stated, "I'm ready to fight the best. My team was focused on the fights, while I worked hard in the gym.

"I beat him in amateurs, and I'd be happy to do it again in pros."

Crawford beat Porter in November. Ugas and Spence are currently negotiating a headliner pay-per view, which is planned for April.
