UFC 279's main fight is now in MAJOR doubt, as Khamzat Chimiev lost seven-and-a half pounds before Saturday's meeting against legend Nate Diaz.

The Swede, aged 28, was just a pound over the welterweight limit and weighed in at 178.5lbs.

The future of Chimaev's fight against UFC icon Diaz remains unknown

Rival Diaz, 37 years old, has successfully lost weight at 171lbs ahead of what could be his last fight in UFC.

Diaz's contract is ending with the MMA firm. He is not close to agreeing to any new terms.

Chimaev joked that Darren Till was to blame for his failure to reach the weight limit after he failed to meet it.

Chimaev shared an edited photo of the couple with laughing emojis and the caption "it was his fault".

Yancy Medeiros Diaz's training partner wrote: "He didn’t lose weight. He didn't want weight gain."

Although the status of this fight is not known, reports suggest that Tony Ferguson could be facing Diaz as co-main event.

Dustin Poirier appears to have thrown his hat in the ring to win the fight.

The Diamond shared a photo of himself on the scales. He weighed in at 176.7lbs.

Poirier answered a fan's question about whether he could reach the 171 limit.

Poirier will enter Saturday's main event after a defeat to Charles Oliveira.

He did however win back-to-back victories over Conor McGregor, the UFC's most famous fighter.
