CONOR MCGREGOR's coach suggested that CONOR MCGREGOR may not fight at lightweight.
The Notorious is now in the final stages in his rehabilitation from the terrible broken leg that he sustained in his fight with Dustin Pourier in July.
Conor McGregor started lifting weights soon after breaking his leg at UFC 264
McGregor, 33 years old, has gained muscle while he was on the sidelines, weighing in at a staggering 86kg.
John Kavanagh, the coach, suggested that a return to welterweight might be in the cards for the two-division champion.
The SBG Ireland chief said during an Instagram Live: "You might remember some extreme photos of Conor years ago, when he was fighting in lower weight classes in UFC.
"They were extremely extreme and were all done under the supervision of a doctor.
"Even he wouldn't go back to those weights now.
It's not healthy and it doesn't work for the long-term.
"I encourage you to take a look at his most recent photos on Instagram.
"Look at how strong and big that looks. This is what it means to be a fighter. Get big, get strong and live a healthy life.
Kavanagh insists McGregor's improved frame will not prevent him from competing at lightweight if he chooses.
Fox Sports reported that he said: "I don’t think it will prove to be all that difficult. To be honest. In the past, he has had some dramatic weight reductions.
He seems to be a good fit at 155lbs.
"The physical stage is almost complete, and you have seen his posts.
"He's been having a great Christmas, but he's ready to go back to training and prepare for another contest."
UFC supremo Dana White expects McGregor to be back in action this summer. However, the co-manager of McGregor is not so sure.
Tim Simpson, a guest on The MMA Hour stated that although he doesn't believe it will happen in the summer, it will certainly be this year.
"Maybe we wait to see when the lightweight title fight takes place and then go there.
"He will fight in this year's fight and it is a credit for him. He has no real reason to except the desire to, and that is impressive."
