McGregor's Return
Conor McGregor has been accused of not taking Michael Chandler seriously ahead of his long-awaited UFC return. While the fight has not yet been officially confirmed, McGregor raised eyebrows by claiming on social media that he would face Chandler on June 29 at middleweight. This weight class is two divisions above McGregor's last fight weight, and former boxing world champion Carl Froch believes that McGregor's lack of commitment to the fight could lead to him getting hurt.
Questioning McGregor's Commitment
In an interview, Froch expressed his concerns about McGregor's approach to the fight. He stated, "Conor McGregor won't be taking the fight that seriously if he fights at the higher weight class. It's an indication to me that he won't be taking Chandler seriously in training, and when you don't prepare properly, he could end up getting hurt." Froch believes that McGregor's mindset and lack of preparation could make him vulnerable to being knocked out or tapped out.
McGregor's Recent Activities
Despite the doubts surrounding his commitment to the fight, McGregor has been keeping busy. He recently celebrated the trailer release of his Hollywood debut in a Roadhouse reboot, where he stars alongside Jake Gyllenhaal. McGregor has also posted training footage to assure fans that he is on track to fight for the first time since July 2021 when he broke his leg in a match against Dustin Poirier.
Uncertain Return
While McGregor is eager to make his return, UFC president Dana White has cast doubt on his claim of fighting in June. White stated, "When Conor's ready to fight, you know we'll announce it. That's what we do." The historic UFC 300 card, scheduled for April 13 in Las Vegas, is still without a headliner, and McGregor has hinted that he could be the one to fill that role. Chandler has already accepted McGregor's challenge, indicating that the fight could become official soon.
